A former contestant on the U.K. version of The X Factor has pleaded not guilty to murdering an influencer in a road rage attack.
Gabrielle Carrington, 29, is accused of hitting influencer Klaudia Zakrzewska outside the Inca nightclub on Argyll Street in London’s West End at 4:30 a.m. local time on April 19, according to the BBC.
Carrington, from Manchester in northern England, was initially charged with attempted murder, but the charge was upgraded to murder after Zakrzewska died from her injuries on April 25, added the BBC.
The singer allegedly got into a car in the Soho neighborhood of the British capital before she hit Zakrzewska and then struck security guard Anoush Chyche, per the BBC and The Independent.

As the vehicle reversed, Zakrzewska, 32, could be seen lying on the pavement, the outlets reported. She died six days after the incident.
Carrington is also facing charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent in relation to Chyche, who suffered “life-changing injuries,” per Sky News and the BBC.

She attended a hearing at the Central Criminal Court in London via video link from jail on Monday, Aug. 3, for a plea hearing. During this, she appeared without legal counsel and entered not guilty pleas for murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent, per the BBC.
“As I’m not represented, I am happy to give a plea today even though I am not represented,” Carrington said, per The Independent.

Carrington reportedly wiped tears from her face during the court proceeding, The Independent and the BBC reported. Judge Sarah Whitehouse said the case would be tried at the Central Criminal Court (otherwise known as “The Old Bailey”) from Jan. 5, 2027.
Carrington has 361,000 followers on Instagram and appeared on the U.K. version of The X Factor in 2013 as part of a girl group called Miss Dynamix, per Sky News.
The U.K.’s Crown Prosecution Service did not immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for further information.
