WWE’s CM Punk Reveals FBI Contacted Him About Death Threats

WWE star CM Punk recently opened up about receiving death threats. He also revealed the FBI has contacted him before.

The conversation happened on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story podcast. It started with fake social media posts about Punk’s recent WWE title win. Co-host Elyse Dudzinski showed a viral graphic with supposed reactions from Logan Paul, Seth Rollins, and Becky Lynch. Punk quickly said the posts were fake.

Punk explained that many viral wrestling posts are completely fake.

“First of all, first of all, I look great. So this is why I don’t fuck with social media. This is, like, AI-generated. These are fake quotes. Seth did not tweet this. Becky did not tweet this.”

Punk said people often believe fake posts without checking them. He added that this creates bigger problems than many realize.

“This is a double-edged sword about, I think, most people in our business, but especially me, and I do not say this lightly. These are mentally ill people who, I mean, I couldn’t imagine making up fake tweets that somebody else said. But I think the problem, and it’s not just in our business, I think it’s a societal thing, is people will instantly see that, and then they believe it.”

“And I don’t know how to change people’s minds about that, which is why I lean into, ‘I don’t care about changing anybody’s mind about that.’ I’m in a business of toying with people’s emotions, so if somebody’s gonna read that, and they’re gonna believe it, that helps me in a way. You know? There’s also Phil, who walks through parking lots with his wife, who has his head on a swivel because those people are out there, and, you know, I’m like… It’s interesting.”

The conversation then shifted toward fan behavior and safety. Stephanie asked if the FBI contacts people over death threats. Punk confirmed that has happened to him.

“Yes. I know that too. (laughing), I think they’re pretty slack on that too, by the way. I don’t think they’re catching all of them.”

When Stephanie asked if he had actually received those calls, Punk gave a direct answer. “There’s been a few phone calls. Absolutely.”
