- *Five Nights at Freddy's 2 *sees Mike and Abby reuniting with the haunted animatronics, unleashing new horrors.
- Returning stars Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard are back, joined by newcomers Mckenna Grace and Skeet Ulrich.
- *Five Nights at Freddy's 2 *is slated to hit theaters on Dec. 5, 2025.
Everyone's favorite animatronic killers are back and cuter than ever.
*Five Nights at Freddy's 2*, the anticipated follow-up to 2023's box office hit, brings Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson) face-to-face with even more killer mascots. In the sequel, Mike will re-team with police officer Vanessa Shelly (Elizabeth Lail) as his little sister Abby (Piper Rubio) somehow manages to buddy up with the creepy mechanical crew yet again.
Horror veteran Matthew Lillard returns as William Afton, the sinister founder of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza and Vanessa's serial killer dad.
Lillard previously told ** that he's pumped to be part of a growing series. "I'm pretty thrilled right now being a part of a new franchise," he said. "I'm hoping that we get to do a bunch of these and, if I'm the Voldemort, that means I'll always be in it!"
Here's everything we know so far about *Five Nights at Freddy's 2*, from the release date to its cast, plot details, and trailers.

Actually, there are *two* trailers giving fans a taste of the terror to come.
The first teaser dropped on April 2, teasing the return of the evil animatronics by killing off *Seinfeld* icon Wayne Knight. (Not cool.) It ends with a chilling scream from Emmy nominee Mckenna Grace (*The Handmaid's Tale*, *Ghostbusters: Afterlife*) as she looks up at something (probably, you know, a bear) in horror.
On July 24, Universal shared a full trailer.
It opens with characters played by Grace and Teo Briones (*Chucky*, *Final Destination Bloodlines*) sneaking into the original Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, where nobody's been "for decades."
At first, everything seems quiet, until one of the animatronics springs to life from a giant metal gift box, prompting a terrified reaction from Grace.
The clip also shows Mike and Vanessa on a date. "So this is what it's like, being normal?" Vanessa asks Mike, who replies, "I think we've come pretty far, considering what we've been through."
The conversation shifts to Abby, who's seen clutching a FazTalker toy and trying to contact her friends. That night, the FazTalker activates on its own. "Help us. Come find us. I will show you the way," it intones.**
"Evil has left the building," the trailer warns as mayhem erupts on screen.
But the biggest reveal comes in the final moments. Alone at night, Mike hears the animatronics nearby. He glances at a decaying Freddy mask and mutters, "There’s no way that'll work," before lifting it to his face as one of the animatronics approaches him. The moment is a nod to a classic survival trick from the original *Five Nights at Freddy's* games.**

'Five Nights at Freddy's' director says animatronic mascots moved by themselves during shoot
The 'Five Nights at Freddy's' post-credits scene, explained
Since the events of the previous film, Mike and Vanessa have worked to keep the truth about the animatronics from Abby, Mike's 11-year-old sister, "but when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy," reads the synopsis, "it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy's, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades."
