The Odyssey is making headlines once again, this time over AI-generated images. Christopher Nolan‘s epic adventure film is just a few days away from release. Amid this, an AI-generated photo of women on the movie’s sets is going viral.
Christopher Nolan’s movie is facing fake-image chatter before its theatrical release
An AI-generated image of Greek women extras from The Odyssey is going viral across social media. The picture, seemingly from the sets, shows women getting makeup touchups. They are wearing white see-through dresses with gold hardware. Moreover, the sleeveless outfits have a plunging neckline and high slit, adding a bold touch.
Many thought the women might be cast as sirens in the upcoming film based on Homer’s epic poem. However, as per Greek mythology, sirens were half-woman and half-bird creatures rather than the idealized figures pictured in the AI generation.

Netizens expressed excitement seeing the photo, with one saying, “Watching for the plot? Nah… watching for them.” Another one wrote, “Sorry, Christopher Nolan, maybe I judged your movie too soon.” A third user shared, “Ok, fine. I’m gonna watch the Odyssey. In IMAX. Front row.” While the image was confirmed to be created by Artificial Intelligence, many fans joked about buying tickets just to catch a glimpse of the non-existent extras.
This AI image comes amid the criticism regarding the casting in The Odyssey. As such, Nolan responded to the backlash in an interview with The Telegraph. “Comes with the territory,” the Interstellar director said. He continued, “But look, these conversations that happen before people see the film – they’re always irrelevant, because no one having them knows what the film actually is yet.” The British-American filmmaker said he was aware that adapting The Odyssey would provoke audience reactions about how the film should be visualized.
“But remember, I spent 10 years of my life dealing with Batman,” Nolan shared. The 55-year-old added, “When I came on to Batman Begins, writers and artists had been working on this beloved character for almost 65 years, and a lot of freighted thoughts were out there about what he represents.” He continued, “And what I learnt over my time on that trilogy is you can’t worry about any of that at all. What you have to do is honor the original text by interpreting it in the strongest way you personally can.”
