Tyla’s second album is officially on the way. The South African pop star revealed the release date of her sophomore project, titled A*POP, on April 22 with a sizzling trailer that offers bold outfits and high-energy beats courtesy of an unreleased track from the album.

The A*POP release date announcement comes on the heels of the pop star’s latest collaboration with Zara Larsson and the release of her chart-topping 2025 single, “Chanel.” This time around, the album developed naturally.

“I feel like the first album, it was very hectic, it was a rush. It was like, all of a sudden, overnight craziness. So now that I’m settled in, I feel like I know more about my direction and what I want to do, what I want to say,” Tyla said in a February interview with Rolling Stone. “I just knew that as I lived through the making of the album, it was going to fall into place, which it did. I feel like I just did something really fresh and so…Tyla.”

Here’s everything we know about the album so far.

When will A*POP be released?

A*POP will be released on July 24. Fans can pre-save the album—which contains a total of 14 tracks—on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.

Has Tyla revealed the cover of the album?

The cover art arrived with the album announcement on April 22. The imagery features a black-and-white photo of Tyla with her hair styled into voluminous curls that obscure her facial features. The title of the album cuts across the image in shiny pink lettering.

Sony PicturesWhat will A*POP sound like?

Expect A*POP to be a continuation of Tyla’s signature “popiano” sound. In 2024, the pop star told Billboard how her unique “popiano” style came to be, and explained that it’s rooted in pop, R&B, and South African amapiano music.

“The songs I was making prior were very pop and R&B, and I wanted to do that on an amapiano beat,” she told the outlet. “In South Africa around that time, there wasn't many people singing [to amapiano], it was mainly chanting and instrumental, so it was very new and it was literally us just playing around and it ended up working. I realized that that was my sound. Popiano, it’s cute.”

In the teaser video for the album, A*POP is described as “dance, African, unapologetic, fun, for you, for me, confident, global. Tyla is A*POP.”

Has Tyla previously hinted at what the album would sound like?

Fresh off the release of her self-titled debut album, Tyla told ELLE in her 2024 cover story that her meteoric rise to fame would likely have an effect on the sound of her next album.

“I do feel like I’ve changed a lot in the span of a few months; people may not see it. I’m excited to see that in my next album,” she said. “This year was me introducing myself. Next year I’m just gonna have fun, do whatever, wear whatever. I’m just playing around a lot, and bringing a lot of my roots into my music. It’s still gonna be me, still sweaty vibes, but evolved.”

Has Tyla released any singles for A*POP yet?

Yes. The hitmaker has released three tracks ahead of the album’s arrival—“Chanel,” “Is It,” and “She Did It Again” featuring Zara Larsson, the latter of which was released on April 17.

Tyla and Larsson shared the story of how “She Did It Again” came to be in a feature with Vanity Fair.

“She hit me up and we went out to dinner and the studio after,” the “Water” singer recalled. Larsson added, “Cut to us playing our music for each other in the studio and she asked me to be on it. I was blushing!”

Of their collab, Tyla said the song defines “where I am right now musically, and I feel like collaborating with Zara pushes the song further into pop territory without losing what I wanted it to feel like.”
