- Tom Holland has revealed he'd love setting up the "next chapter" for another *Spider-Man* movie star to take over the role.

- "If I could do what Downey did for me," Holland said in an interview Wednesday, "then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset" with another star at the helm.

- Starting in 2016, the actor has played Spider-Man in multiple films, and united past Spider-Men Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire in 2021's *Spider-Man: No Way Home*.

Tom Holland is looking forward to joining the Hollywood legacy of iconic Spider-Men that came before him.

The longtime *Spider-Man* film series star has admitted that he sometimes thinks about what the franchise might look like when he's ready to move on — including pondering how he might pave the way for whoever slings their way into the part in the future.

“For whoever’s next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter,” he told *Empire* in an interview Wednesday.

Holland himself has united with major actors who've influenced the superhero space before him, having forged a sweet bond with longtime Marvel Cinematic Universe star Robert Downey Jr. across his time appearing in the films, as well as with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. The two *Spider-Man* actors reprised their roles alongside Holland in 2021's *Spider-Man: No Way Home*.

"Whatever that looks like, I don’t know," Holland speculated about playing the part beyond the upcoming *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*. "But if I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset."

The actor also opened up about his pitch to the studio for *Brand New Day*, which included what he described as a "Spider-Puberty" plotline.****"What happens if Peter Parker is losing control and things are changing?" he asked. “‘Spider-Puberty’ was my tagline pitch to the studio — which was immediately shot down. But they liked the kernel of the idea and it grew into what we have in the movie now."

Holland reprises his role in the film, which is out July 31, and also stars his longtime romantic partner (or wife, according to a recent, unconfirmed statement from stylist Law Roach), Zendaya.

Like Holland, Downey Jr. has maintained a firm presence in several Marvel superhero projects, including returning to the *Avengers* franchise following the death of his original character, Iron Man, in 2019's *Avengers: Endgame*. Downey Jr. will return in *Avengers: Doomsday *as the villainous Victor Von Doom.

"At the time, [Downey] was on his way to winning the Academy Award for *Oppenheimer* and there was every story about 'the greatest actor in the world,' and we thought, 'This could be it. Let's do it,'" Marvel Studios' president, Kevin Feige, told ** in April about bringing Downey Jr. back. "It's our universe. It's a multiverse. We can do whatever the heck we want. He played the most iconic hero. Let's have him play the most iconic villain."
