- Paramount announced that the next installment of *Top Gun* is in development with a "script underway."

- The studio's heads said that the project is "reuniting Tom Cruise and Jerry Bruckheimer."

- Cruise also narrated a promotional video that paid tribute to Paramount's history, ending with him lounging on the studio's water tower.

Paramount is staying in the *Top Gun** *business.

The studio's heads, Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein, announced that the next installment of the high-flying franchise is officially in development with a "script underway." They added that the film is "reuniting Tom Cruise and Jerry Bruckheimer," who produced the first two movies.

The studio did not explicitly state whether Cruise will appear in the project, so it's possible that he may only be involved in a producer capacity.

The announcement came a few minutes after Paramount debuted a star-studded promotional video directed by *Wicked *filmmaker Jon M. Chu and narrated by Cruise himself.

"Like all great journeys, this one started with a dream," Cruise says in the video, which zooms through Paramount's studio backlot in Hollywood. "Before it was a studio, Paramount Pictures was a belief in a future filled with stories. Stories that would light up darkened halls and ignite the collective imagination of a public that yearned for connection."

Cruise continues, "Paramount Pictures has been a beating heart of iconic filmmaking, cultural touchstones that live from generation to generation."

The promo ends with the stunt that probably made Cruise agree to participate in the first place: the *Jerry Maguire* actor sitting atop the studio's iconic water tower. "The future is Paramount," he says before coming into frame. "And the future looks pretty great from here."

If there was any doubt that Cruise actually appeared on the tower himself, *THR* reported that the *Rain Man *star was spotted filming on the landmark in March.

The promo also featured brief appearances from Timothée Chalamet, Will Smith, James Cameron, Issa Rae, Mark Wahlberg, Chris Pratt, Teyana Taylor, John Krasinski, Margaret Qualley, James Wan, Callum Turner, Mckenna Grace, and Miles Teller.

The water tower is just the latest landmark that Cruise has scaled for the love of movies. Last year, he climbed atop the Hollywood sign as part of a promotional clip for the closing ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics, which was broadcast immediately after the *Magnolia* actor performed a live stunt in Paris, jumping off the top of the Stade de France.

Cruise also stood atop the BFI IMAX theater in London during the press tour for *Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning*. And on screen, he famously climbed the Burj Khalifa in Dubai in *Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol*.
