Tiger Woods is seeking to block information about his prescription drug use from going public.
According to court documents reviewed by PEOPLE, Woods’ attorney Douglas Duncan claims that the pro golfer has a "constitutional right to privacy interest." Woods was arrested and charged with DUI after a rollover crash in Jupiter Island, Fla., on March 27. He pleaded not guilty on March 31.
"This right is admittedly not absolute should the State show the relevance of the records to its criminal investigation and thus warrant intrusion into Mr. Woods' privacy," Duncan wrote in the motion filed on Tuesday, April 14. The attorney requested a hearing to determine whether or not prosecutors can obtain Woods' prescription records, which are on file at Lewis Pharmacy in Palm Beach.
If they are able to, Duncan requests that a judge issues an order to "ensure Woods' prescription records only be viewed by the State, its law enforcement officers, any State experts, and the Defense," and not become public.

Duncan added, "If and when it becomes necessary for the State to publicly disclose said records or any portion of said records, that a hearing must be held to determine the necessity of said disclosure."**

Following the crash on March 27, Woods was charged with misdemeanor DUI and refusal to submit to a lawful test and distracted driving. During a press conference about the arrest that day, Sheriff John Budensiek noted that the golfer was "lethargic and slow," and showed "severe signs of impairment." Woods took a breathalyzer test on the scene, which came back at zero. However, the golfer later refused to take a urinalysis test in jail.
At the time of the arrest, authorities say he had opioid hydrocodone pills in his pocket and reportedly told officers, "I take a few," when asked if he takes prescription drugs.
Woods was previously involved in a single vehicle rollover accident in 2021, which resulted in him undergoing several surgeries. In 2017, the golfer was charged with DUI in Jupiter, Fla. Though no alcohol was found in his blood, painkillers and sleep drugs were, according to a toxicology report.

Woods spoke out after the crash, announcing that he would be seeking treatment and focusing on his recovery. "I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today," the golfer said on March 31. "I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery."
He continued, "I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones, and myself at this time."
