Amanda Seyfried recently spoke about turning down the Guardians of the Galaxy role. She said that at the time she believed that if the MCU movie didn’t turn out to be a hit, it could ā€œruinā€ her career. For those unversed, Seyfried was offered to play Gamora, the adopted daughter of Thanos, a role that was then taken over by Zoe SaldaƱa.

Amanda Seyfried gives real reason for turning down Guardians of the Galaxy

In a conversation at a Q&A with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, Seyfried revealed that rejecting Guardians of the Galaxy was an ā€œobviousā€ choice for her. This is because she believed that the movie would not become a hit due to its strange characters, placed in space.

ā€œLike, they’re talking, the tree and the raccoon are talking to each other. And also, they’re all in space. Yeah. And I was just like, I this will ruin my career if this is bad. And there’s a high chance that this could be bad. I mean, obviously I was wrong.ā€ The 2014 movie turned out to be a massive MCU hit, earning $773.3 million worldwide.

The actress further added that she doesn’t regret her decision, as she made it for herself and the family she hoped to have. Moreover, she said she had no interest in spending long hours in the makeup trailer, noting that she struggles to sit still anyway. Seyfried also mentioned her dislike of stunts and heights, adding that she doesn’t like having to ā€œpretend the entire worldā€ either. The actress stated that she needs ā€œsomething to hold on to.ā€

Seyfried was further asked whether she had any interest in a superhero movie at present. She said no, unless the superheroes had to walk in a lot. ā€œLike Ann Lee was a stretch. Like I had to move a lot,ā€ she explained. She added that while she’s comfortable with emotional scenes, choreographed moves are ā€œother-level stuff.ā€ The actress, however, acknowledged that such moves can help actors dig deeper into their characters.
