Street Fighter appears to be winning over early audiences by leaning into the franchise’s unapologetically outrageous style. Attendees at the Los Angeles premiere and advance screenings loved its explosive brawls, eye-catching combat moves, and exaggerated characters.
First reactions to Street Fighter are praising its action
Several fans praised director Kitao Sakurai for making the fights look bold and exciting. One compared Street Fighter favorably with Mortal Kombat (1995). The fan said it brings anime-style action to live action better than either of the newer Mortal Kombat movies.
The excitement continued online, with one fan describing the film as “really fun” and joking that he planned to catch it “8 more times.”
Another fan praised the adaptation for bringing the game’s world to the big screen. They wrote it respects the franchise’s legacy while serving up “spectacular combat, GREAT music & plenty of laughs from start to finish.”

The action also gets a boost from the film’s larger-than-life characters. One reaction described it as “Bloodsport on horse steroids,” praising its explosive fights and old-school action movie feel. The movie also pokes fun at the macho attitude found in many 1980s action films.
Noah Centineo and Koji received more love from another viewer, who wrote that the pair “land every move,” while calling Callina Liang “a dream Chun-Li.”
A separate reaction described the adaptation as “a wonderful accomplishment” with “tons of knockout performances,” adding that Rhodes’ future in comedy looked bright.
With full reviews still pending, Paramount has let audiences at the premiere and early screenings post brief first impressions of Street Fighter. The adaptation brings together director Sakurai and screenwriters Dalan Musson and Gary Dauberman, with a cast that includes Joe Anoa’i, David Dastmalchian, Jason Momoa, 50 Cent, Vidyut Jammwal, and Don Lee. Moviegoers can see the fighting-game adaptation in theaters beginning October 16.
