Stephen Colbert has some very eloquent words for Donald Trump after the president recently gloated over news of* The Late Show*’s cancellation on social media. **
The late-night comedian addressed Trump’s comments during his monologue on Monday, just days after the septuagenarian posted on his Truth Social platform that “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired” and that the comedian’s “talent was even less than his ratings.” **
“How dare you sir?” Colbert remarked. “Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism?”
Turning to face another camera, which featured a golden border around its edges that read “eloquence cam,” Colbert bluntly declared, “Go f--- yourself.”

He also reacted to the second half of Trump’s post, in which the Republican politician claimed that Jimmy Kimmel would be next on the late-night chopping block. **
“Nope! No, no. Absolutely not, Kimmel,” Colbert teased. “I am the martyr, okay? There’s only room for one on this cross and I’ve gotta tell you, the view is fantastic from up here. I can see your house!”

Earlier in the monologue, Colbert admitted that it’s truly “sunk in that they’re killing off our show” next May. However, he noted, “They made one mistake… they left me alive.”**
He continued, “And now, for the next 10 months, the gloves are off. I can finally speak unvarnished truth to power and say what I really think about Donald Trump starting right now…. I don’t care for him. Doesn’t seem to have like the skill set to be president. Just not a good fit, that’s all.”

Colbert also acknowledged the “gracious press release” that the show’s network CBS, released following the news of *The Late Show*’s cancellation. **
“They clarified that the cancellation was ‘purely a financial decision,’” he said. “But how could it be purely be a financial decision if the late show is no. 1 in ratings? It’s confusing!” **
He added that they followed up that release with a “gracious anonymous leak” in which the company said they “pulled the plug on our show because of losses pegged between $40 million and $50 million dollars” per year. **
“$40 million’s a big number. I could see us losing $24 million dollars, but where would Paramount have possibly spent the other $16 million?” Colbert said, referencing Paramount's settlement with Trump. “Oh yeah.”
Colbert wasn’t the only one who spoke out about *The Late Show*'s cancellation last night. *Daily Show* host Jon Stewart also blasted Paramount — which is also the parent company of his show's network, Comedy Central — and questioned its decision to end the program.**
“The fact that CBS didn't try to save their number-one-rated network late-night franchise, that's been on the air for over three decades, that's part of what's making everybody wonder, 'Was this purely financial, or maybe the path of least resistance for your $8 billion merger?'" He asked, referencing Paramount Global's pending sale to Skydance Media, which requires approval from President Donald Trump's administration. **
He later added, “I think the answer is in the fear and pre-compliance that is gripping all of America's institutions at this very moment — institutions that have chosen not to fight the vengeful and vindictive actions of our pubic hair-doodling commander-in-chief. This is not the moment to give in!”**
