Plans to spend almost £2.1m to make repairs at an athletics stadium in Nottingham are set to be approved.

The project at the Harvey Hadden Stadium in Bilborough would see the athletics track replaced and the stand, which would have its capacity capped at 499, refurbished.

Nottingham City Council's executive board has been recommended to approve the £2.082m project when it meets on 20 October.

Earlier this year, the authority said the main stand had been closed due to "health and safety concerns" and "viable funding options" were being sought for repairs.

The stadium was built in the 1950s and partly funded by Harvey Hadden, a Nottingham textile merchant and philanthropist, with the city council the sole trustee of the the Harvey Hadden Stadium Trust.

As well as being the base for a number of clubs, the site hosted the World Cerebral Palsy Games in 2015.

In a document released ahead of the meeting, the city council said the investment "is required to address deteriorating track, stand and supporting infrastructure".

"Harvey Hadden Stadium is Nottingham's only full athletics stadium and a valued part of the city's sporting heritage," it said.

"The proposed investment will renew this distinctive public asset, protect year-round athletics provision and create a safer, more welcoming venue for schools, clubs, community users and future generations."

Repairs to the running track are part of the plans set to be approved
