Rachel McAdams teared up as she honored Diane Keaton, her costar in 2005 movie *The Family Stone* and 2010's *Morning Glory*, at the Oscars on Sunday.
She first spoke about the late Claudia Cardinale, "whose six-decade career helped bring European cinema to America," and three-time Oscar nominee Diane Ladd, "who brought fierce humanity and wit to every role." She called Catherine O’Hara a "comedic genius and scene-stealer, our *Mighty Wind* and my fellow Canadian." McAdams added, "She made us laugh until we cried."
McAdams got extra emotional when speaking about "icon" Keaton.

"For over 50 years, luminous on screen and indelible in life, believe me when I say, there's not an actress of my generation who's not inspired by and enthralled with her absolute singularity," McAdams said of Keaton. "She wore so many hats, literally and figuratively. Actress, artist, author, activist. But no hat more important to her than being mother to her two children. She meant so much to so many."
Keaton who died in October at 79, was the mother of two adult children: daughter Dexter and son Duke.
McAdams recalled that Keaton had liked to sing a Girl Scouts song on set, which the *Mean Girls *star found to be "just so her." The words were, as she remembered, "Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other is gold. The circle is round, it has no end. That's how long I’ll be your friend."

She gave one, emotional last line: "And so to our friend, Diane Keaton, celebrating a life of silver and gold, a legend with no end."
And she wasn't the only one deeply affected by the annual "In Memoriam" segment.
Barbra Streisand also took the stage to remember Robert Redford, her costar and love interest in the beloved 1973 film *The Way We Were*.
Redford, who was also a director who founded the Sundance Film Festival, died Sept. 15. He was 89.
"He was thoughtful and bold," Streisand said. "I called him an intellectual cowboy who blazed his own trail."
Streisand belted out part of the movie's theme track, which was awarded the Oscar in the category of best original song at the 1974 ceremony.
