Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their official royal roles in 2020 and began pursuing business opportunities on their own. Critics saw their decision as a “rejection of Britain” and the monarchy. Their later comments about the royal family further strained their relationships with relatives. Some critics also accused the couple of wanting to keep their royal privileges without taking on the responsibilities that come with them.

Despite the criticism, Harry and Meghan still have supporters. Their public image could improve over time, as public opinion of the royal family has shifted over the years. However, they will need to make careful decisions and change how they handle their public roles to rebuild trust with the British public.

Reporting on The i Paper, expert Richard Palmer shared that Harry could learn from his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. She remained in the public eye after divorcing King Charles III, who was then Prince Charles. Diana continued to support charitable causes after her divorce and used her public influence to highlight important social issues.

Although she no longer held the same position within the monarchy, she remained a prominent public figure. However, Diana’s circumstances differed considerably from Harry’s. She reportedly received a £17 million lump-sum divorce settlement and an annual allowance of £400,000 to maintain her private office. She also continued to live at Kensington Palace.

Harry does not have the same financial arrangements, although he has developed independent sources of income. The expert believes Harry could follow a similar path by using his platform to challenge governments in Britain and abroad.
