For Paris Jackson, her fatherās birthday carries both love and loss.
The singer marked what would have been Michael Jacksonās 68th birthday by releasing two deeply personal songs.
Michael, known around the world as the āKing of Pop,ā died in June 2009, when Paris was just 11 years old.
Paris, now 28, released āThe Breezeā and āJust Me and Youā as a double single on Saturday, August 29. āThe Breezeā ends with a moving recording of Michaelās voice telling his daughter, āI Love You, Paris.ā
The private moment left fans in tears. However, the āLet Downā singer stressed that the songs were not intended as a conventional public memorial.
āItās not a tribute. Itās not a commemoration. Itās not a demonstration of any kind,ā she wrote on Instagram.
āIt is a letter. It is a poem of the sonic variety. It is my honest experience ā with love, loss, and para-social relationships vs a personal one.ā
What Does Michael Jackson Say in āThe Breezeā?
The recording at the end of āThe Breezeā appears to capture Michael saying, āI Love You Paris.ā
One listener shared on X: āMichael Jacksonās daughter, Paris Jackson, released a new single today on her father birthday, called āThe Breeze,ā which has Michael Jacksonās voice at the end of the song saying āI Love You Parisā. Truly Heartwarmingā
Michael died in June 2009 after suffering cardiac arrest, ABC News reported at the time. Paris, the pop iconās only daughter with Debbie Rowe, was 11 at the time.
āJust Me and Youā explores the tension between private grief and the publicās continued fascination with Michael. āAnything thatās real will leave them outraged and appalled,ā Paris sings. āHeadless wordsāll tell me that itās all my fault / Hey, just for clicks, maybe it is.ā
She also addresses her desire to protect what remains personal. āKeeping what I have left close to my heart / Theyāll twist it and interpret it as something cold and stark,ā she sings.
