Friday night fireworks were in full effect across MLB on May 29 as five teams pulled off walk-off wins.
Four of them came via home run, and it was the first time since August 28, 2020, that four teams had walk-off home runs on the same day. What’s even more interesting is that all four home runs were two-run shots.
The Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago White Sox, New York Mets and Colorado Rockies all had walk-off home runs, while the Seattle Mariners won on a walk-off double from Randy Arozarena.

Bryan Reynolds two-run home run leads Pirates past Twins
Friday night’s game between the Pirates and Twins got off to a hot start with the teams combining for four runs in the first inning. By the end of the third inning, Minnesota was leading Pittsburgh 5-3.
Then the offenses cooled off with no more runs scored heading into the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Twins brought on Taylor Rogers for the save opportunity. The southpaw gave up an infield single to Spencer Horwitz, who was replaced by Tyler Callihan as a pinch runner.
Rogers bounced back by striking out Brandon Lowe for the first out of the inning. This brought up Bryan Reynolds, who worked a 2-2 count before launching a 93 mph sinker 422 ft. into the left field stands at PNC Park for the 6-5 win.
Miguel Vargas’ two-run blast lifts White Sox past Tigers
Chicago went into the ninth inning down 2-1 in a close game against its division rival, Detroit.
Rookie standout Rikuu Nishida went for a sacrifice bunt, and Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson had a throwing error, which allowed Andrew Benintendi to score the tying run.
The game went into extras, and Detroit plated one off a sacrifice fly from Zack Short.

Drew Anderson took the mound for the Tigers in the bottom of the 10th. He struck out Sam Antonacci and got Derek Hill to ground out to third.
On the second pitch that Miguel Vargas saw, he hit a 391 ft. home run to left center that plated Drew Romo, who started the extra frame on second base, securing the 4-3 divisional victory.
MJ Melendez launches two-run shot in 10th to beat Marlins
The Marlins and the Mets went into extra innings tied 7-7. After Miami failed to plate a run in the top of the ninth, all eyes were on New York for a potential walk-off.
Pete Fairbanks came on to try to push the game into the 11th for the Marlins. He got Juan Soto to fly out to center, leaving Vidal Bruján stranded at second base.
MJ Melendez was down 0-2 in his count, but then took the third four-seam fastball of his at-bat and deposited it into the right field stands for the 9-7 win in extras.
Ezequiel Tovar caps off Rockies’ 5-run 9th inning to beat Giants
Ezequiel Tovar launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to bring the Rockies within one run of the San Francisco Giants.
The Giants responded by getting the two runs back in the top of the ninth and went into the bottom half of the inning leading 6-3.
Hunter Goodman hit a three-run home run to tie the game 6-6. After reliever Caleb Kilian got Troy Johnston to strike out for the second out of the inning, Willi Castro singled to right field.
Tovar came up, and on the first pitch he saw, he hit a hanging knuckle-curve out for his second home run of the night, lifting the Rockies past the Giants 8-6.
Randy Arozarena doubles in the bottom of the 10th to overcome Diamondbacks
Arizona tied the game up in the top of the ninth, 6-6, from a fielder’s choice that plated Geraldo Perdomo.
The Diamondbacks did not score in the top of the 10th. Juan Morillo came on to pitch the 10th for Arizona and struck out Julio Rodriguez for the first out. The Diamondbacks went with the strategy play and intentionally walked Josh Naylor to set up a potential double play.
Arozarena worked a 2-2 count and then doubled to center field, scoring J.P. Crawford and winning the game.
