On August 4, Meghan Markle turns 45 years old.

Back in 2016—a full decade ago—the then-actress shared on her now-defunct lifestyle blog The Tig how she celebrates every birthday.

Coincidentally, 2016 was the year she met Prince Harry, whom she married two years later in 2018.

Meghan Markle is one for traditions—and that goes for holidays and birthdays, too. As she turns 45 years old on August 4, a past post on her now-defunct lifestyle blog The Tig gives the public a clue as to what she might be up to—at least in part—as she celebrates her big day.

“My mom has always said that birthdays are your own personal New Year,” the Duchess of Sussex wrote on The Tig in 2016 (per Hello!). “Your own chance to make resolutions just for yourself and what you prognosticate for your year ahead.” She said she does this ritual for her birthday every year, and that year was when she’d ultimately meet her future husband Prince Harry.

In 2016—a full decade ago—Meghan’s resolutions for her 35th year of life included “More surprises, more adventure, more opportunities to grow, more days filled with giggles and cheeky jokes, more delicious meals, and more inspiration. Always more inspiration.”

When Meghan turned 35 on August 4, 2016, she had just met Harry a month prior. It was during this same month that Harry and Meghan took their famous third date trip to Botswana—where they’d later say they fell in love.

For Meghan’s last milestone birthday—her 40th in 2021—a source told Usthat the Duke and Duchess of Sussex kept “it low-key and simple. It’ll be a family affair.”

Back in August 2021, Meghan had just welcomed her daughter Princess Lilibet exactly two months prior, on June 4, who joined 2-year-old brother Prince Archie. With the COVID-19 pandemic still going on, “Meghan is not having a blowout 40th,” the insider added. “She feels it would be wrong to organize a big birthday bash in the midst of a pandemic.”

At the time, Harry and Meghan couldn’t “believe how much Lilibet has grown since the birth,” the source continued. “She’s starting to notice things around her and smiles. She’s just so adorable.”

As for turning 40, Meghan was unbothered. “Meghan isn’t fazed about entering a new decade of her life,” the insider said. “She’s embracing turning 40 years old.” She will likely feel the same way about turning 45, too, which she’ll do on Tuesday—no doubt with a resolution or two in hand.
