Meet the Cast of ‘Carrie,’ the Gen Z Adaptation of the Stephen King Classic

Mike Flanagan’s 2026 Prime Video adaptation of Carrie sets Stephen King’s hit horror story in the modern world, with smartphones and social media reshaping the tale.

Canadian actress Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White, while Flanagan regular Samantha Sloyan plays her mother, Margaret.

Rounding out the cast are Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Arthur Conti, and Joel Oulette.

Stephen King’s debut novel, Carrie, earned its place in horror history in 1976. That year, Sissy Spacek starred in the first film adaptation of the book. Her hair-raising performance as the titular bullied teen is still referenced today, both in Halloween costumes and countless parodies and homages in other media. But actress Summer H. Howell—who puts her own take on the character in the 2026 Prime Video miniseries Carrie—didn’t watch the classic Brian De Palma film until the new show finished shooting.

She and showrunner Mike Flanagan decided it would be best for Howell, 22, to avoid past iterations of Carrie so that she could make the character entirely her own, per Teen Vogue. Flanagan’s adaptation of the iconic horror novel is bent on establishing its own identity. It’s even set in the modern world, smartphones and all, adding a new dimension to the high-school humiliation that anchors Carrie’s torment.

While the story is reimagined, the familiar characters are all here, including Carrie’s hyper-religious mother, Margaret White (Samantha Sloyan), remorseful bully Sue Snell (Siena Agudong), alpha mean girl Chris Hargensen (Alison Thornton), Carrie’s prom date Tommy Ross (Joel Oulette), and local menace Billy Nolan (Arthur Conti).Spacek said she’d be “first in line to see” the series during a 2025 red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight. She added that it was “beautiful” that the story “has found an audience with teenagers,” adding, “we’re all just wounded teenagers somewhere inside.”

Summer H. Howell

Canadian actress Summer H. Howell plays Carrie White, the tormented teenager who discovers she has psychic abilities. A longtime actor, the 22-year-old’s past horror credits include Cult of Chucky and Night of the Reaper. The scream queen-in-the-making told Teen Vogue of her take on the iconic character, “All I can say is that I have worked really hard, and I hope that you like my version, or at least you give it a try.”

Siena Agudong

Carrie’s bully with a change of heart, Sue Snell, is played by Siena Agudong. The Hawaii native previously starred as the titular character in Netflix comedy No Good Nick. She also played Natlee in the Nickelodeon series Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn. Like co-star Howell, Agudong is no stranger to horror, having appeared in 2022’s Resident Evil series on Netflix.

Alison Thornton

Aliston Thornton plays Chris Hargensen, Carrie’s chief tormenter who doubles down on her bullying ways and tries to ruin her time at prom with a now-infamous prank. The actress from Elle, School Spirits, Nancy Drew, and other shows told TV Insider she appreciates how the new series expands on Chris’s motivations. “I found that much more unsettling…It’s not that she just wakes up and decides to be a villain. She’s justifying to herself the whole time that she’s in the right,” Thornton explained.

Joel Oulette

Tommy Ross is brought to life by actor Joel Oulette. The kind jock is Sue Snell’s boyfriend at the start of the series, but the show veers away from the plot of the 1976 movie, inventing a new reason for him to ask Carrie to prom. Oulette is a Canadian actor whose credits include My Life with the Walter Boys (where he played Jay), Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, and Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Arthur Conti

Newcomer Arthur Conti stars as Billy Nolan, Chris’s boyfriend who has a penchant for getting into trouble. His past projects include this year’s slasher, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, as well as 2024’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. In the forthcoming Christmas Carol adaptation Ebenezer, he plays young Ebenezer.

Samantha Sloyan

Carrie’s cruel, overprotective mother Margaret White is played by Samantha Sloyan, a mainstay in Flanagan projects like The Haunting of Hill House, The Midnight Club, and The Fall of the House of Usher. Other shows you might remember her from are Scandal (in which she played scandalized aide Jeannine Locke) and Grey’s Anatomy, in which Sloyan portrayed Dr. Penelope Blake in Season 11 and Season 12.

Thalía Dudek

Emaline is a character original to Carrie (2026), and comes with her share of mysteries. Could she be a friend to Carrie, or something else altogether? You’ll have to watch the show to find out. As for where you may have seen German-Australian actor Thalía Dudek before, their prior roles include Doctor Who, The Running Man (another King adaptation), and Prisoner. They’re also attached to the upcoming project from Everything Everywhere All At Once creators the Daniels.

Amber Midthunder

One of Carrie’s only allies is her gym teacher, Miss Desjardin, played by Amber Midthunder. (In the 1976 film, the gym teacher is named Miss Collins). Midthunder previously starred in 2022 Predator prequel Prey, and has also appeared in Novocaine, Roswell, New Mexico, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Legion.

While she seems right at home in the at-times disturbing series, the actress told Marie Claire, “I am notoriously afraid amongst this cast. I really struggle with horror, so it has been quite an exposure therapy experience hanging out with this crowd.”
