- Disney has revealed at its D23 convention news about the highly anticipated live-action *Tangled* remake, including first-look footage at Rapunzel and Mother Gothel’s costumes.

- Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim will take over the roles from voice actors Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi as Rapunzel and Flynn.

- Manheim also appeared in a video message wearing his costume from the film.

After all those days watching from the windows, a first look at footage from Disney’s live-action *Tangled* remake has seen the light — all while a major *Outlander* actress joins the cast as well.

The studio debuted the first official imagery from the highly anticipated film Friday night at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, where star Kathryn Hahn presented the project on stage to attendees at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

Hahn was on hand as the studio unveiled first-look footage of iconic costumes first worn by Rapunzel (Teagan Croft), Flynn Rider (Milo Manheim), and Mother Gothel (Hahn) in the live-action adaptation of the 2010 animated classic, hitting theaters March 31, 2028.

Disney showed a first look on a large screen inside the arena, with a shot showing Rapunzel’s flowing blonde hair strung across the ground, before the camera panned up to show Croft in full costume as Rapunzel.

The next shot revealed a long-nailed hand reaching out from behind a dark door, with the figure stepping out to reveal herself as Hahn as Mother Gothel.

“Thank you! You were right! I *am* Mother Gothel: Stunning, hilarious, fab, kind, generous — to a fault. Might be a little overprotective, but that’s because she cares so much,” Hahn said on stage when the clip ended, referencing intense fan interest in her taking on the role. “I love Mother Gothel, I love playing her, she’s the best kind of villain. She’s the kind who thinks they’re actually the hero!”

Diego Luna and lead actors Croft and Manheim weren’t at the presentation due to being on set filming the Michael Gracey-directed project, but they sent a video message to the crowd, telling them they were “devastated to be missing D23 with you all, but we’re busy filming in beautiful Spain,” Croft said.

“We’ve been traveling throughout all of Spain through some very real and very beautiful places,” Manheim added, adding that more will be shared in the months ahead.

*Outlander* star Caitríona Balfe also joined the cast as Queen Arianna, while Elliot Cowan (*The Crown*) will play King Frederic, and Patrick and Hugo McPherson (*Pear*) will appear as the Stabbington twins.

Disney previously announced that the film would star Hahn as Mother Gothel, the animated movie’s iconic villainess who kept Rapunzel (voiced by Mandy Moore) locked away in a tower, though a notorious thief, Flynn Rider (voiced by Zachary Levi), prompts a journey of self-discovery and liberation for the teen.

*Titans* alum Croft and Manheim joined the project months prior, with the latter having worked with Disney on a string of successful *Zombies* franchise movies for the Disney Channel.

In an interview with **, Manheim opened up about his surprise casting in the film — which even came as a last-minute shock to him.

“It’s important the world knows this! People think that I booked this like a long time ago and I’ve been keeping it a secret,” Manheim told EW earlier this year. “I found out 10 minutes before the news was released that I’d be playing Flynn. So that day was — I woke up, just like any other day, and by the end of the day... it was beautiful. The world knew; it was great.”

Manheim earlier teased his transformation into Flynn on a February episode of *Live With Kelly and Mark*, where he detailed the physically demanding process of playing the part.

“Yes, *Tangled*, I’m here for you. I can’t believe that it’s happening. I love this movie,” Manheim — son of *Law & Order* actress Camryn Manheim — told Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos at the time.

In addition to “learning how to hold my breath for five minutes” and “how to ride a horse” for the project’s sequences, Manheim added that joining the film has “opened up so many doors” for him as an actor.

The original *Tangled* movie earned $607 million at the global box office and later spawned the short-form film *Tangled Ever After*.

Disney further built a Tokyo DisneySea theme park attraction, 2024’s *Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival*, which adapted its story from the animated *Tangled* movie, while Walt Disney World also built a bathroom themed to *Tangled* at its Magic Kingdom park in Orlando.

*Tangled* releases in theaters on March 31, 2028.
