LIV Golf suffers brutal hammer blow as Jon Rahm finally confirms he's leaving

It hasn't taken long for LIV Golf 2.0 to be dealt a major setback after Jon Rahm confirmed that he would not be returning to the rival circuit.

During Wednesday's LIV Golf bankruptcy hearing, Rahm's lawyer revealed that his client has "independently reviewed the proposed terms of LIV 2.0 ... and has determined that those terms are unacceptable to him, and he will be not be participating going forward."

Back in April, LIV Golf revealed that the Saudi Public Investment Fund — which invested over $5 billion into the tour — would cease its financial support once the 2026 season wrapped up. After an extended search for new capital, commissioner Scott O'Neil announced that the organization had obtained a term sheet with an investor ready to spearhead a "LIV 2.0" alongside other potential minority stakeholders.

On Sept. 8, LIV Golf filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and secured a restructuring support agreement that would see the rival tour become "majority owned by players."

A U.S. bankruptcy court later granted the organization interim approval of its first-day Chapter 11 motions, allowing it to borrow $14 million through debtor-in-possession financing.
