Lisa Ann Walter began her comedy career in the late '80s in New York and later became widely known for her role as Chessy in the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap
Nearly three decades later, audiences are still quoting her iconic line from the movie
After years of also performing stand-up, Walter's debut special, Lisa Ann Walter: It Was An Accident, premiered on Hulu on May 15
Lisa Ann Walter first stepped onto the comedy stage in the late '80s amid the bustling New York comedy scene, and her sharp wit and fearless humor quickly set her apart, earning her a devoted following in clubs across the city.
While comedy was her first love, Walter's versatility soon propelled her into film and television, capturing audiences with her memorable performances, like the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap.
“A lot of people, for most people, they discovered me from The Parent Trap, or some of the TV shows that I did,” Walter tells PEOPLE while attending the Disney 2026 Upfront on May 12.

Indeed, Walter is perhaps best known to a generation of fans for her role as Chessy, the no-nonsense housekeeper in the beloved rom-com.
Starring Lindsay Lohan in dual roles as twins separated at birth, the film also featured Dennis Quaid and the late Natasha Richardson, and quickly became a family favorite.

According to Walter, fans continue to quote one specific line said to Quaid's Nick Parker when Chessy realizes Hallie is actually Annie: “Like what? I'm not looking at her any special way. I'm looking at her like I've looked at her for 11 years, since the day she came home from the hospital. 6 pounds 11 ounces, 21 inches long, this is how I look at her.”
And after reciting the line from memory at the Disney event, despite it being nearly three decades old, Walter admits she has to get it exactly right each time or else “the fans will kill me.”

Today, Walter is returning full circle to her comedy roots, bringing her experiences from decades of acting back to the stage. She's optimistic that audiences who remember her from the early days will come out to support her new material, while newcomers will discover her unique comedic voice.
“Finding me as a comic is new to them,” she says. “But I'm looking forward to them watching it. It is a really good show and it's funny.”
