Liar Liar child star Justin Cooper opened up about what it was like being famous at such a young age.

He revealed that his mom protected him from some of the stranger aspects, including fan mail he would get from ā€œdudes in jail.ā€

Cooper’s acting credits include Full House, General Hospital, and Boy Meets World.

Fans might be calling Justin Cooper ā€œliar liar,ā€ when they find out about the mail he’s received.

The former child star, who appeared alongside Jim Carrey in the 1997 comedy Liar Liar, reflected on the fame he got at 8 years old during a recent episode of the The Not So Little Rascals podcast.

ā€œThat’s when I realized it was big was after [Liar Liar] came out and, you know, I couldn’t really go anywhere in public,ā€ Cooper told fellow former Little Rascals child stars Jordan Warkol and Blake Collins.

Cooper, who played Carrey’s onscreen son Max Reede, said he ā€œenjoyedā€ the attention he got out in public. ā€œI mean, I think it probably annoyed my family a little bit more, because we would go to Hometown Buffet for dinner.ā€

ā€œWe would go and, then there would just be a line at my table of people wanting to get my autograph,ā€ while his family would be out for dinner. ā€œI didn’t mind it. I thought it was cool.ā€

As for whether the notoriety felt scary or overwhelming at any point, Cooper credited his mom for looking after him.

ā€œMy mom did a really good job of shielding me from stuff. She would tell me later on about, like, prison mail that I would get that she never showed me,ā€ Cooper said, elaborating that he received ā€œletters from people in jail talking about — dudes in jail — talking about how they’re big fans of me or how I’m such a cute kid.ā€

Added Cooper, ā€œShe never ever left me alone with anybody on set. There are a lot of acting parents that you hear of back in the day that were just like, ā€˜Yeah go do whatever they tell you to do.’ And my mom was not like that, and almost to a fault.ā€

After a while, Cooper said that any time he had an audition, it felt like more of a chore, especially once he was a teenager and more focused on school. He said there was some ā€œdisappointmentā€ from his mom when he said he wanted to stop acting, but overall, ā€œit was fine.ā€
