King Charles and Prince Harry’s latest reunion may not have been solely about bringing the family together. That’s the assessment of one royal expert, who believes the private meeting was a carefully arranged plan with a broader objective. The visit reportedly allowed the King to spend time with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet after several years. Now, the expert claims the gathering may also have been designed to gauge whether trust between father and son can be rebuilt.

Expert discusses dynamics between King Charles and Prince Harry’s reunion

Multiple outlets reported that King CharlesĀ welcomedĀ Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet to Highgrove House last Friday. The private visit is said to have allowed the monarch to spend time with his youngest grandchildren for the first time in more than four years. Afterward, Buckingham Palace confirmed the meeting had taken place. However, it released no photographs and described it only as a ā€œprivate family occasion.ā€

That level of secrecy has prompted fresh speculation. Sky News Australia contributor Louise Roberts believes the gathering was about more than reconnecting as a family. She suggested the meeting was also an opportunity for Charles to assess whether his relationship with Harry could move forward.

ā€œI see this whole meeting less a family reunion and more of a test as to whether Charles can actually trust his younger son again,ā€ Roberts said. She added that she believes the King is ā€œvery keenā€ to rebuild his relationship with Harry. However, she claimed he remains far more cautious after years of public tensions.

Then there was the choice of venue. According to Roberts, the decision not to select Highgrove House happened by chance. Since it is Charles’ private residence, she argued it allowed him to ā€œcontrol every aspectā€ of the reunion. ā€œThe choice of Highgrove is very significant,ā€ she said. ā€œThis is Charles’s private home, so it’s on complete lockdown.ā€ The commentator added that hosting the meeting there was very different from welcoming the Sussexes to Buckingham Palace.

Likewise, the lack of photographs has become another talking point. Roberts claimed the absence of any official images was ā€œsignificant.ā€ She suggested the King and Queen Camilla were careful to keep the gathering away from public view, limiting the chances of unwanted attention.

Separately, other reports have alleged that secrecy formed an important part of the reunion. Both sides reportedly agreed in advance that the public disclosure of personal details from the meeting would not happen.
