King calls AI surge 'deeply concerning' as monarch warns people are 'anxiously seeking reassurance'

King Charles will today host a high-level artificial intelligence forum at Dumfries House, drawing senior figures from some of the world's most influential technology firms.
The Ditchley Foundation has organised the gathering, which will bring together representatives from Nvidia, Google DeepMind, OpenAI and Anthropic, alongside the Minister for Artificial Intelligence.
Thought leaders assembled through the King's Trust, the King's Foundation and the Sustainable Markets Initiative will also take part.
The forum has generated considerable global media attention and, according to organisers, "could scarcely be more timely, prescient or important" given the rapid pace of AI development.
Participants will examine how this fast-evolving technology can be directed towards strengthening communities, improving lives and protecting the natural world.
A central aim of the discussions will be to establish whether a common framework of principles can be agreed upon to steer AI's future use.
Such guidelines would seek to ensure the technology serves not simply as an engine of efficiency and capability, but as an instrument that safeguards human dignity.
The ambition is for AI to contribute to the wellbeing of both people and the planet, rather than advancing purely commercial or technological objectives.

Before the discussions get underway, the King will address attendees to frame the purpose of the event.

He will describe AI's development as "both intriguing and deeply concerning in equal measure," noting that people who cherish humanity's moral dimension "are anxiously seeking your reassurance that we will not lose control of our destiny."
The monarch will put two central questions to the room: how AI's benefits can be realised with safety at its core, and how international cooperation and consensus can be forged so that "no nation is left behind - and the future of mankind protected."
The King will stress that choices made during this pivotal period will determine the world that future generations inherit.

"The task before you is not merely to advance technology, but to ensure that it remains firmly in the service of humanity, community and the natural world," he will tell participants.
Drawing on his personal faith, the monarch will declare: "Our humanity must remain sacred."
The forum reflects His Majesty's deep-rooted conviction that the greatest challenges and opportunities facing society are best tackled through cross-sector collaboration and open dialogue.
He previously addressed the subject of AI in a video message delivered to the Government's Bletchley Park summit in 2023.
