On the eve of a new season, Josh Hart is reflecting on winning an NBA title.
“The parade was lit. The parade was super lit,” the New York Knicks star, 31, tells PEOPLE at an event celebrating his ambassadorship for Armani’s I WILL Eau de Parfum in New York City. “But I would say probably hugging my dad right after. That one was dope.”
He adds, “Obviously, having my kids on the podium was cool. But seeing him, seeing my mom, all the sacrifices they made to put me in that exact position, it was a full-circle moment. So, seeing them.”

Weeks after defeating the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals in five games, the Villanova alum shared other memories about clinching the title — but they were not so fragrant.
“The aftermath, that locker room was probably the nastiest thing I ever seen,” Hart recalled to PEOPLE in July. “They smelled so bad. I smelled like beer, champagne, cigars. Oh my gosh, that was horrible.”
After winning Game 5 in San Antonio, the locker room at Frost Bank Center featured ecstatic Knicks players and coaches, plus spilled beverages that slicked every surface.

“I honestly indulged in the celebration, and after that I was like, ‘Dog, I need to get away and shower,’ ” Hart shared. “Everyone’s celebrating in our locker room. I’m in a coach’s locker room showering and getting myself together. But it was fun. The locker room was chaotic.”
He added about finally bringing New York a title after 53 years: “It was a lot of emotions. Obviously excitement. Kind of relief, honestly.”

Along with his college and current teammate Jalen Brunson, Hart also had a hard time letting it all sink in.
“We were just sitting there,” Hart said. “He has a trophy, and we’re sitting there like, ‘Bro, we really did this.’ ”
Hart, Brunson and the Knicks will begin their title defense on Oct. 20 against LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers.
