Long before Jon Moxley became a main eventer in WWE and AEW, he was a star in the hardcore independent organization CZW. And the new documentary I Fought Jon Moxley details his rise to become one of the best and baddest men on the indy scene.

Moxley has become a household name among wrestling fans for his exploits over the last 15 years. First, he introduced himself to new fans during his run in WWE’s developmental promotions FCW and NXT. When he was moved up to the main roster, he was part of one of the most impactful factions of all time, The Shield. After the group broke up, he rose to become a main event star and won the WWE Championship.

Eventually, the unique star grew tired of WWE’s creative shackles and decided to boldly jump to AEW when it was a brand-new company in 2019. Since then, he has been one of the faces of the brand that is now the undisputed No. 2 wrestling company in the world.

Moxley has built a legendary resume that will place him among the greatest stars of his generation. But every legend has an origin story, and the new documentary I Fought Jon Moxley digs into the details of how his rise in wrestling all started.

In an exclusive provided by the producers of the new film — which can be viewed above — CZW legends Nick Gage, Rich Swann, and Mickie Knuckles talk about their earliest memories of Moxley and what made him special from the start. One of the more interesting comments is from Knuckles, as she compares him to one of the most famous wrestlers of all time.

ā€œI liked to think of him as a more punk rock version of a ā€˜Stone Cold’ [Steve Austin],ā€ the one-time CZW Tournament of Death Champion said. ā€œI don’t know why. I just always thought of him as that punk, edgy, not giving a f***, but with a little bit of a Southern appeal to it.ā€

The 80-minute documentary is directed by Brendan Amoruso, written by Maven T. Bentley, and produced by Bentley, CZW owner David Markland, Kee Min, and George Zouvelos. The film goes deep into Moxley’s CZW career, including his defining matches and opinions from fellow promotion greats.

I Fought Jon Moxley is set to premiere Oct. 13 in select theaters and on major cable and digital platforms.
