“Daily Show” host Jon Stewart made a surprise appearance Jimmy Kimmel’s final night hosting his show in Brooklyn on Friday night.

Emerging from the “sewers” of the Brooklyn Academy of Music wearing the garb of the people recently caught climbing in and out of New York City manholes, Stewart drew a rousing applause from the studio audience as he revealed himself.

“What the hell are you doing down there?” Kimmel asked. “Are you an urban scavenger?”

“Urban scavenger?” Stewart replied. “How about a hello? How about ‘Nice to see you’?”

Stewart said he was not scavenging things in the sewer, but rather bringing things down “for the rats.”

“I’m like a little rat Santa,” Stewart said.

“What gifts do you bring rats?” Kimmel asked.

“Pelotons,” Stewart said sarcastically. “What do you think I mean—Amazon gift cards? I bring food. They’re rats!”

After a person in a rat suit appeared and Stewart fed him a piece of pizza, Kimmel protested, saying he didn’t believe it was right for Stewart to be giving pizza to the rats.

“Oh, I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were the boss of Brooklyn. Let me tell you something. As Jesus said, and by the way, I shouldn’t know this. You should know this. As Jesus said, if you give a rat a pizza, he eats for a day. But if you teach a rat to make his own pizza...” Stewart said, trailing off.

When asked about the conditions of the sewers, Stewart said Rudy Giuliani is still mayor and there was a Mets game down there scheduled later that night.

“The Mets are still playing in the sewer?” Kimmel said.

“They’ve been playing in the sewer all year, too,” Stewart said before retreating into his manhole.
