As you may know, both Jessica Chastain and Jeremy Strong released new movies last week, with Jessica starring in the horror film Other Mommy, while Jeremy plays Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network sequel, The Social Reckoning.

He shot to global fame playing Kendall Roy in Succession, and some of his castmates have spoken at length about struggling with Jeremy’s approach to filming.

(For what it’s worth, Jeremy is big on method acting because Daniel Day-Lewis is one of his idols, and working as his assistant on the 2005 film The Ballad of Jack and Rose, when he was 25, was hugely influential for him.)

Jeremy is also famous for his almost constantly somber facial expression, which he has previously attributed to being told he “smiled too much” when he was younger. In a 2023 interview with GQ, the star explained that after securing a scholarship to Yale, he felt like an outsider among his peers due to his working-class background.

In the sense that she saw me become very turned inwards and more depressive, or less free… People used to tell me that I smiled too much, which is maybe hard for people to believe when they know me now.”

Jeremy actually started the conversation, sharing a link to a news article that reads: “Other Mommy Spanks The Social Reckoning at the Box Office,” to which Jessica replied: “Omg.” At this point, Jeremy playfully hit back with a finger pointing emoji, implying that he was swearing, and a kiss emoji: “👆🏼😘” Jessica added: “These pics are hysterical,” and he responded: “Its so funny.”

Stefania D'Alessandro / Getty ImagesRight off the bat, people were left shocked by this insight into Jeremy’s texting style, with a popular Reddit comment reading: “I'm surprised Jeremy Strong doesn't text in complete sentences with perfect grammar and MLA citation.” To which somebody else replied: “I was surprised by that too, and that he used emojis!” Meanwhile, one more said of the conversation: “Jeremy Strong seems like the exact kind of guy to take something like that very personally so I guess I'm pleasantly surprised?”

“This is actually adorable and humanizes Jeremy Strong so much to me,” another wrote, before joking: “I didn’t know method actors could use emojis.” Somebody else said: “Wait. He seems…. Fun? I’m literally shocked he comes off as insufferable and self serious in interviews.”Others shared stories that they’d remembered reading about Jeremy that paint him in a whole new light, including a particularly emotional one about how he supported Michelle Williams and her 2-year-old daughter, Matilda, after Matilda’s dad, Heath Ledger, tragically died in 2008.

Nina Westervelt / Getty ImagesSpeaking to Variety in 2022, Michelle revealed that he and some other friends and relatives all moved into her home after the bereavement, adding: “Jeremy was serious enough to hold the weight of a child’s broken heart and sensitive enough to understand how to approach [her] through play and games and silliness.”“It’s true that his clothes were always designer, but he had only one sweater and two t-shirts and they were torn at the neck because he would play ponies with my daughter and let her ride on his back and use his clothing as reins,” Michelle went on. “So he walked around with his beautiful things ruined and he never thought twice about it and he never told her to stop.”

“[Matilda] didn’t grow up with her father but she grew up with her Jeremy and we were changed by his ability to play as though his life depended on it, because hers did,” she concluded at the time.

Stuart C. Now I’m crying instead of working.”Needless to say, this Jeremy Strong appreciation seems long overdue, and I, for one, am here for it. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
