Colleen Hoover has been diagnosed with cancer.

The bestselling *It Ends With Us* author, 46, publicly announced on Monday that she was receiving radiation treatment. "Second to last day of radiation!" she wrote in a post on her Instagram Stories. "I wish I could blame my hair and facial expressions on @texas.oncology but they've been great. Hope you never need them, but highly recommend them."

Hoover previously discussed her diagnosis in a post to a private Facebook group in December, which was publicized in an Instagram post by katyinc.

In October, the author pulled out of promotional events for the film *Regretting You*, which was based on her 2019 book of the same name.

"I’m super bummed, but am having an unavoidable surgery and can’t travel for a while," she wrote on Instagram. "Please tag me in all your @regrettingyoumovie posts when it releases next week! I’ll live vicariously through you guys. So sad to miss this movie release and premiere, but so grateful to all the actors and the team who put this together."

Hoover also acknowledged her diagnosis in a Facebook post on Friday. "I got results back today from the geneticist that say my cancer did not come from family genes," she wrote. "It also didn’t come from the two main causes of the cancer, which are HPV and excessive hormones. This means it was more than likely environmental/lifestyle, which is lack of exercise, poor diet and stress."

Why 'It Ends With Us' author Colleen Hoover is 'almost embarrassed' to tell people she wrote novel

Hoover's latest book, *Woman Down*, follows an author experiencing writer's block after the film adaptation of one of her prior novels generates widespread controversy. While that might sound similar to *It Ends With Us* being overshadowed by the legal battle between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, the author insisted that the book isn't shading any particular Hollywood figures.

"I think people might expect this book to mirror my life more than it does," Hoover told PEOPLE. "But overall, there are very few similarities between my life and this book."

The author also said that online scrutiny has affected her creative process. "I wasn’t prepared for the ways that attention would impact my mental health," she said. "I used to get a lot of my motivation from social media, but social media has changed so much over the years, and the negativity surrounding any subject or post, not just the book world, tends to put me in a headspace that doesn’t leave me feeling creative."

*Woman Down* is now available in bookstores everywhere.
