Ireland’s latest taste of college football has been anything but smooth, with TCU vs UNC delivering a chaotic opening-day matchup in Dublin. The game has been filled with botched plays, turnovers, fumbles, and costly mistakes, including a disastrous TCU punt that resulted in a safety.

With both teams struggling to find consistency, the matchup quickly became the subject of jokes online. College football fans have had a field day reacting to the chaotic TCU vs. UNC matchup.

“Ireland might never ask for college football again after being subject to UNC/TCU,” Brandon Walker, College Football Show host Liam Blutman wrote on X.

“This game has NOT caught the public’s imagination at all. Local weather hasn’t helped, but not many people even know this is happening today! The only college ball team I get playing in Ireland is ND, for obvs reasons. Today’s match-up doesn’t work,” a fan wrote.

“What a disaster for TCU! 😬🏈 Two points gifted away,” a fan wrote.

“That’s every punter’s absolute worst nightmare,” a fan wrote.

“I think the kicker was thinking give up the 2 points instead of 6. If he tries to pick it up and fumbles just a bit, UNC is right there,” a fan wrote.

“Not anything like last year’s TCU-UNC rout. Belichick’s hot seat is cooling,” a fan wrote.

With five minutes remaining in the third quarter, the North Carolina Tar Heels lead 15-10. UNC quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. has completed 10 of 20 passes for 166 yards.

Bill Belichick on the NFL Building a Global Brand

The NFL is actively trying to expand football’s presence in international markets. We’re seeing more games being played abroad every year, while the possibility of a European franchise joining the NFL continues to gain momentum.

According to Bill Belichick, there is a lot of excitement surrounding football among international fans.

“The NFL is very intent on building a global brand, and you can see that in their scheduling this year,” he said, per BBC. “Every time I’ve been part of those international games, the enthusiasm and the excitement is tremendous. I’m sure the NFL will continue to pursue that. College football is doing it with this game, so I think it is great for the game.”

Belichick believes travel would not be a major obstacle, as he feels traveling to Europe is not much different from traveling from the East Coast to the West Coast.
