A spokesperson for the Puerto Rico Police's Guayama Command confirmed to PEOPLE that Flores's niece died in a drowning incident in a pool in Salinas, Puerto Rico

Though police said they couldn't confirm the deceased by name, Flores shared her identity in a statement he posted to his Facebook page on June 9

Laia Nazaret — the 5-year-old niece of content creator Michael Flores — died in a pool drowning incident on June 7.

A spokesperson for the Puerto Rico Police's Guayama Command confirmed to PEOPLE that Flores's niece died in a drowning incident in a pool in Salinas, Puerto Rico. Though police said they couldn't confirm the deceased by name, Flores shared her identity in a statement he posted to his Facebook page on June 9.

The spokesperson added that police believe Nazaret drowned while Flores was filming a music video. Nazaret was taken to Sur Medical Center in Salinas by a family member, the spokesperson continued, and police are speaking to members of Nazaret's family as part of an ongoing investigation into her death.

Flores, a Puerto Rican influencer, shares music and other content from his life to a combined following of over 4.4 million across Instagram and Facebook.

"There are no words to describe the void left by her departure, nor the pain the entire family is experiencing at this time," read the translated June 9 statement, signed by Flores's manager. "The artist and his family are in mourning, and the authorities are conducting the appropriate investigation. Out of respect for this process and the family's grief, we respectfully request that his loved ones be allowed to experience this moment in privacy, and that speculation and the dissemination of unconfirmed information be avoided while everything follows its official course."

Concluded the statement: "We ask God for strength for the family and eternal rest for Laia."

Flores also shared several other posts, expressing his grief for his late niece in additional Facebook posts.

"GOD GIVE ME ONE MORE SECOND ONE MORE MINUTE PLEASE," he wrote in one.

"I TRIED WITH MY HEART WITH ALL MY STRENGTH TO SAVE YOUR LIFE...... I hope when we meet in eternal life you forgive me," he shared in another.

Flores's manager did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.
