British IndyCar driver Jack Harvey has been diagnosed with cancer.
The 33-year-old, who works as a pit reporter for Fox Sports alongside his racing duties, made the announcement in an emotional social media statement on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
“My entire career has been about fighting for what’s next. The next opportunity. The next chance to prove myself. The next time I could get back in the car and show what I’m capable of,” Harvey wrote on Instagram.
“There have been moments when the path forward was obvious, and plenty when it wasn’t. I’ve had to earn opportunities, fight to keep them, and learn how to keep moving when things didn’t go the way I planned,” he added.
“But through all of it, I’ve never stopped believing that there was something worth fighting for,” Harvey continued. “Life has delivered a new fight to my doorstep. I have recently been diagnosed with cancer.”
He reassured fans he hopes to return to broadcasting in time for the season-opening race in St. Petersburg, Fla., in March 2027 and then get back in the driver’s seat for the Indianapolis 500 in May, and said he’d been receiving “excellent care and support” from everyone around him.
Indianapolis resident Harvey, who began his formula racing career as a teenager in 2009, finished his statement by saying, “I’ve never backed away from a challenge in my life and this circumstance is no different. So… Let’s fight.”
“Let’s fight. 💪,” he captioned the post.

This thing doesn’t stand a chance.”
Hinchcliffe added on Instagram about Harvey’s impending return to racing, “Imagine the movie they’re gunna make about your 500 win after this!!”

Sting Ray Robb, another IndyCar rival, wrote that he and his wife would be “lifting you, your family and your doctors up in prayer,” adding, “We’re here for you, brother!”
Lincoln City, the U.K. soccer team Harvey follows and part-owns, wrote on X, “The thoughts of everyone in the Imps family are with you, Jack.”
At the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the venue that hosts the Indy 500, the display on the scoring pylon has been changed to read “#JackStrong” in tribute, too, with its official Instagram page writing, “Together in the fight.”

Harvey, who comes from the village of Bassingham in the U.K.’s East Midlands region, about 140 miles north of London, has amassed 10 racing championship wins in his career, according to his IndyCar profile.
He’s also a two-time INDY NXT by Firestone championship runner-up, and is one of a number of drivers to have won on both the oval and road courses at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
