Harry Connick Jr. breaks down eldest daughter Georgia’s spiritual connection to his late mother.

The singer’s mom, Anita Livingston, died when he was 13.

Harry Connick Jr. had a rather haunting experience with his eldest daughter, Georgia.

During a Friday appearance on Hoda Kotb’s Joy 101 podcast, Connick Jr. discussed his late mom, Anita Livingston, who died when he was 13 in 1981. Kotb asked Connick Jr. if his three daughters — Georgia, 30, Kate, 29, and 24-year-old Charlotte — ever asked about their grandmother.

Connick Jr. launched into the “craziest” story about Georgia, which occurred when she was “about” four years old.

“We were driving down the West Side Highway from Connecticut and we passed the sign for Dyckman Street and I said, ‘Georgia, that’s where your grandma grew up. Somewhere around there.’ She goes, ‘I know.’ She was in her car seat in the back seat,” Connick Jr. recalled.

Georgia said she “knew” her grandmother. Confused, Connick Jr. told his daughter that Livingston had “died 40 years ago.” Georgia, however, told her father that she sees her grandmother “in my magic circle.”

Georgia described her grandmother with “red hair,” adding that Livingston is “in bed.” Connick Jr. said he “almost drove off the road” when hearing that account from his daughter. “She described my mother’s death to a T,” he added.

“Somehow even beyond the genetic presence that my mother has in our daughters, there’s something else going on,” Connick Jr. told Kotb on Friday. “I don’t know how how you define that, but my mother is very much in them. It’s an incredible thing. They’re very much in her.”

The actor said that his father, Harry Connick Sr., and his wife Jill Goodacre’s parents were very much a presence in his daughters’ lives, which “almost” made him forget that his late mother is part of their “genetic equation.”

Connick Jr.’s mother, who was known by the nickname Babe, was a lawyer and judge in New Orleans. She died following a battle with ovarian cancer. Last month, Connick Jr. honored his mother with the orchestral album, Babe: Elaboratio, and the book, Babe: Elaboratio: A Tribute to My Mother.

He remembered Babe as “an amazing mom” in an interview with USA Today, published on Sept. 29.

“She made sure that I had the opportunity to see and love and learn as much as I possibly could,” the singer said of his mother. “She was adamant about bringing me to hear musicians almost every weekend from the time I was a small child. It’s an amazing display of dedication and love as a parent.”
