Gypsy Rose Blanchard has opened up about the night her mom, Dee Dee Blanchard, was murdered by her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn.
Blanchard was released from prison in December 2023, where she was serving a 10-year sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the 2015 death of her mother. Godejohn was sentenced to life in prison.
Growing up, Blanchard was allegedly a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a disorder where a parent or guardian either makes up fake symptoms or causes real symptoms to make it look like the child is sick.
Speaking with Paul C. Brunson on the latest episode of his We Need to Talk podcast, Blanchard recalled the night Godejohn fatally stabbed Dee Dee. The Lifetime reality star said she let Godejohn know when her mom had fallen asleep, after which he entered the home. She gave him a knife while he told her to wait in the bathroom.
"I heard screaming," Blanchard said, per People. "It was a horrible sound. It was screaming. It was shock. I almost think I heard 'Who are you?' was asked."
Blanchard noted that transcripts of Godejohn's testimony, as well as conversations he had with fellow inmates, also state that Dee Dee asked who he was as he stabbed her to death.

"And he responded, 'I am death,'" Blanchard added.
Blanchard also said she remembered Dee Dee "calling out for my name," adding, "I wanted to go and help her. Like, I felt like I wanted to go and help her, but I was terrified at the same time. Like my body was paralyzed. I couldn't move."
In a June 2025 Instagram post, Blanchard referred to Godejohn as a "deeply disturbed man," saying, "Regardless of my role of unintentional manipulation… Nicholas made the decision to move forward with that night. That was a choice, and he is not exempt from the consequences of that choice."
She added, "I've taken accountability and now, I take back my life. When I accepted my sentence, I accepted the weight of my choices. I served my time. That was my accountability and I've carried it for years. I don't owe the past anything more."
Since her release from prison, Blanchard divorced from her ex-husband Ryan Anderson, whom she'd married while in jail, and rekindled her romance with Ken Urker. She and Urker welcomed a baby daughter, Aurora, in December 2024. Fans have been able to follow Blanchard's post-prison life in the Lifetime series Life After Lock Up.
