Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel have both undertaken significant efforts to mend their marriages following their extended relationship, which triggered an internal inquiry by The Athletic. On Thursday, The Athletic disclosed that Russini's association with the Patriots head coach constituted a "clear violation" of newsroom standards.
After a thorough examination of the prominent NFL insider's work, Mike Semel - the outlet's editorial director for standards and editorial quality - stated in an official report: "Regardless of whether the relationship [between Russini and Vrabel] was romantic, it was a breach and should have been disclosed.
"I've not found a clear link to conclude that Russini used her platform to help promote Vrabel or help his teams during her time at The Athletic," Semel continued. "That said, there are examples of Russini writing glowingly of Vrabel that in hindsight are awkward or even uncomfortable." Long before The Athletic's conclusions became public knowledge, Russini and Vrabel each took steps to rebuild their marriages. In July, Russini was observed with her husband, Shake Shack executive Kevin Goldschmidt, and their two sons aboard the Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas cruise.
A source revealed to Page Six that the pair seemed to be enjoying themselves, as Russini "blew her husband a kiss at one point across the pool." Vrabel, in the meantime, skipped day three of the NFL Draft to attend counseling. He and his wife, Jen, got married in 1999 and share two sons, Tyler and Carter.

"I promised my family, this organization and this team that I was going to give them the best version of me that I can possibly give them," Vrabel stated at the time. "In order to do so, I have committed to seeking counseling, starting this weekend. This is something that I have given a lot of thought to and is something I would advise a player to do if I was counseling them.

"I have always wanted to lead by example and I believe this is what I have to do to be the best husband, father, and coach that I possibly can be. This is not an easy thing for me to admit, but it is one that I know will make me a better person."
In April, Vrabel and Russini were photographed holding hands and sharing intimate moments during a trip to the adults-only Ambiente Resort in Sedona, Arizona. During their stay, the duo was observed having breakfast on a patio before lounging poolside and relaxing in a hot tub.
After their Arizona trip, multiple earlier public appearances have now surfaced. On March 11, 2020, the pair were seen looking comfortable at Tribeca Tavern's bar. Subsequently, in June 2021, Vrabel and Russini chartered a private boat together in Putnam County, Tennessee, staying as the sole passengers throughout the entire "2-to-3-hour rental."
Most recently, on January 31, 2024, Vrabel and Russini were seen spending an evening together at the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi.
When speaking to the press on Thursday, Vrabel dismissed concerns about The Athletic's completed inquiry into his association with Russini. "No, I don't have any reaction to that," he stated. "We're moved on and focused on Seattle and focused on the Patriots and focused on getting better this week."
Responding to her former employer's examination of her journalism, Russini stated plainly: "I stand by any and all reporting I've ever done in my career."
