- David Boreanaz is weighing in on the possibility of the *Bones* cast returning for a reunion or a series revival.
- The Fox series starring Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel ended in 2017 after 12 seasons.
- “I always said that was the one show that I would definitely revisit,” the actor shared in a recent interview.
*Bones** *star* *David Boreanaz would be happy to revisit the iconic Fox series, but he understands that the logistics could be a bit “tricky.”
The *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* alum weighed in on the possibility of a reunion with his former costars during an interview with ScreenRant published Monday, sharing that while he knows the cast is willing, it would be hard considering that “everyone’s so very busy.”
“I never know with a show like that,” Boreanaz said when asked about speculation surrounding a possible reunion. “What’s great about *Bones* is you can go in and out. I always said that was the one show that I would definitely revisit, as far as going back, because it would be going back and seeing where these characters are now.”
He went on, “Just getting everybody involved would be tricky, be honest with you. I love Hart Hanson, the creator, and I talk to him a lot. So, never say never. Everyone’s so very busy with other projects right now, but it holds a special place in my heart.”

*Bones* made its debut on Fox on Sept. 13, 2005. The hit police procedural drama aired for 12 seasons with Boreanaz playing Special Agent Seeley Booth alongside Deschanel‘s Temperance “Bones” Brennan. It concluded on March 28, 2017, after a successful run with 246 episodes.
Boreanaz shared his love for playing Booth, adding that it was because of his time in the role that he would be willing to return. “So, who knows? We’ll see,” he noted.
However, he added that he’s “always been that type of worker” who would rather focus on the present than look back.
“‘What am I working on now? What’s the process?’ I don’t look too far ahead, I never have, and I never look back,” the actor explained. “Emily always laughs at me for that one. She’s like, ‘David, you never like reunions.’ There’s a reason. I just don’t go back, and I stay really present.
Still, Boreanaz has nothing but fond memories of his time working alongside Deschanel. “We always had this running joke about that for some reason,” he shared. “I think of Emily in regards to that all the time, because the two of us had such a great working relationship, and I adore her.”

In the meantime, Boreanaz has a new project he’s working on that *Bones *fans can appreciate.
The actor will step into the role of streetwise private investigator Jim Rockford, a role originated by the late actor James Garner, for the reboot of the classic TV series, *The Rockford Files**. *The original ran for six seasons from 1974 to 1980, during which Garner was nominated for five Emmys with one win in 1977.

NBC announced its series order of the reboot in May, sharing that Boreanaz’s rendition of *The Rockford Files* is “a contemporary update on the classic series of the same name.”
“Newly paroled after doing time for a crime he didn’t commit, James Rockford returns to his life as a private investigator using his charm and wit to solve cases around Los Angeles,” the show’s official synopsis reads. “It doesn’t take long for his quest for legitimacy to land him squarely in the crosshairs of both local police and organized crime.”
Besides the *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* alum, *The Rockford Files *will star Boreanaz’s former *SEAL Team* costar Michaela McManus, as well as Felix Solis and Jacki Weaver. Writer Mike Daniels will executive-produce alongside Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman. Chris Leanza serves as the series’ co-EP, while director Greg Mottola also executive-produced the pilot.
*The Rockford Files* is slated to premiere on NBC during the 2026-27 fall TV season.
