There's still a great deal of mystery surrounding the plot of *Scream 7*, including how multiple deceased characters are making their onscreen comebacks. But a new teaser released this week offers a clue about David Arquette's return as Dewey Riley.

Dewey, a mainstay of the franchise since the very first *Scream* in 1996, was killed during the events of the fifth movie, a casualty of one of the Ghostface killers of the new era, Mikey Madison's Amber Freeman. Arquette will reprise the role in *Scream 7*, and you can at least hear his voice in the latest preview.

"All your friends died just by being near you," he says to taunt Neve Campbell's Sidney Evans (formerly Prescott) from beyond the grave.

Previous trailers similarly teased the return of Matthew Lillard's Stu Macher, one-half of the Ghostface killers from the original slasher, who died (or at least *seemingly* died) from electrocution when Sidney crashed a TV set onto his face. The same with Dewey, we don't see Stu in those teasers, but we hear him say, "This is gonna be fun."

Scott Foley, who played Sidney's long-lost half-brother and the Ghostface of *Scream 3*, is yet another member of the deceased who will have some part to play in the seventh entry. The teasers heavily suggest the voices — and perhaps even likeness — of these figures will be used as a weapon to torment Sidney.

*Scream 7*, written and directed by original *Scream* scribe Kevin Williamson, picks up with Campbell's Sidney as she lives a pleasant suburban life with husband Mark Evans (Joel McHale) and daughter Tatum (Isabel May), who's now the same age she was during the Woodsboro massacre. A new Ghostface (or Ghostfaces) emerges to enact long-laid plans and hurt Sidney by getting to her family.

Courteney Cox also returns as Gale Weathers, who will no doubt have a strong reaction to hearing Dewey's voice again years after her ex's death.

The ensemble cast includes Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Anna Camp, Roger L. Jackson, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Mckenna Grace, Asa Germann, Celeste O’Connor, Sam Rechner, Ethan Embry, Mark Consuelos, and Tim Simons.

In a previous conversation with **, Lillard said he hasn't even told his wife and kids about how Stu or the other dead *Scream* characters factor into the plot of the movie.

"One of the joys of this franchise is sitting in the dark with the entire world discovering what the twist is this time," he added. "To ruin that for anyone is to ruin one of the great joys of going to the cinema."
