Cameron Brink is speaking out against Enes Kanter Freedom

In a new interview, the WNBA star called the former NBA player a “stupid piece of s---” for his recent actions

Cameron Brink is dismissing former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom’s bid to play in the WNBA as a means “to stay relevant.”

The Los Angeles Sparks star, 24, told WNBA reporter Jarrod Castillo of The Mirror US that Kanter Freedom’s recent overtures — in which he has declared for the WNBA and taunted Chicago Sky star Natasha Cloud mid-game — are nothing more than “clickbait.”

“For me personally, when it comes to the trans issues I believe you’re talking about, I think it’s a non-issue and it’s people trying to just come for the trans community, and I just don’t stand for that,” Brink said. “I don’t know what the f--- his name is, Enes Kanter, like he’s a stupid piece of s--- and I think a lot of people think that. I think he’s just trying to stay relevant.”

Kanter Freedom, 34, injected himself into the conversation after Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham’s comments in an ESPN interview last month sparked a controversy about trans athletes in women’s sports.

In the weeks after, the Fever were met with protests and support on the issue at their games, from Seattle to Minneapolis.

Last week, the former NBA journeyman — whose pro career came to an end at the age of 30 when he failed to sign with a team and then accused the league of blackballing him in response to comments he made regarding China — was banned from the Sky’s home court, Wintrust Arena, for his interaction with Cloud.

Kanter Freedom was ejected from his courtside seat and engaged with the crowd after mocking the Sky star.

For Brink, the former Turkish basketball player’s moves are stirring up a “non-issue.”

“I think people are tuned in [to the WNBA] for the right reasons,” Brink said. “It’s great that we can all talk about things that are important and hard, and you can have your opinions on that, but I think taking something that’s like a non-issue right now and trying to use it for clickbait, for views, for likes, and then targeting a vulnerable community is just really low.”

There are currently no transgender athletes playing in the WNBA, nor have there been any in the league’s 30-year existence.
