Billy on audio!

PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that Billy Eichner, the creator and host of Billy on the Street, is releasing an audio memoir this spring.

Billy on Billy: An Audio Memoir will be released on May 19 from Macmillan Audio. The work, available exclusively on audio, will give an intimate look into the life and upbringing of the actor and comedian.

Billy on the Street is a street interview series that saw Eichner chatting with strangers about pop culture topics such as, "Do gay people care about John Oliver?" He has featured several celebrities on the show, including Neil Patrick Harris, Chris Evans and Will Ferrell. The web series has even spun a few icons itself, including repeat contestant Elena.

The Billy on the Street YouTube channel was created in 2012 and has over 500,000 subscribers with videos amassing over 150 million views.

The audio memoir will draw back the curtain on Eichner, now 47, and introduce him as a classically trained actor and native New Yorker.

"Behind the scenes, Billy has always been equal parts satirist and serious creative thinker. Beyond delving into his experience creating Billy on the Street and Bros, Billy shares funny and inspiring stories about growing up in Queens as the chubby gay kid of two loving, idiosyncratic parents and pays tribute to family members, teachers, mentors and — in true Billy on the Street fashion — his all-time favorite entertainers," the synopsis teases.

The audio memoir will see Eichner taking listeners "along on a surprising and emotional journey, revealing the multidimensional man behind the mic."

"Featuring clips from his most famous sketches, he shares how he created his viral yet unconventional character and begins untangling how — having made such a beloved hit — he is still evolving as an artist," the synopsis continues.

"This book is unlike anything I've ever done as a writer or performer," said Eichner in a statement. "Being best known for my loud character on Billy on the Street, I wanted the book to be released exclusively in audio so that my fans could get a better sense of my real voice and where I came from."

"I wasn't sure what this book would be about when I started to write it," the statement continued. "But what poured out of me over time was a love letter to my parents, to growing up in New York City in the 1980s and 90s and the artists I've always loved and have been inspired by, as well as a look at the hustle required to build and sustain a show business career while trying to stay true to your creative convictions."

"I can't wait for people to listen to it and to hear my story for the first time," Eichner said.

The Webby Award winner has appeared on screen in various roles. He wrote and starred in 2022’s Bros, the first gay love story to include a cast comprised of entirely LGTBQ+ actors. His credits also include Honey Don't!, Parks and Recreation, Bob’s Burgers and American Horror Story.

The actor exclusively spoke with PEOPLE in 2024 about creating Billy on the Street. "Like most actors, I'm shy. I'm not a wallflower, but to go out on the street and deal with real New Yorkers, this was not in my wheelhouse in terms of my comfort level," he admitted.

"I had no idea what would come of this," Eichner said. "It created a bridge. Because queer people recognized this was a gay man’s voice. But straight people just watched me have a heated argument about who’s a better actress, Glenn Close or Meryl Streep, which, interestingly enough, was a type of comedy associated with straight men."

The audiobook will be available exclusively on May 19, 2026, wherever audiobooks are sold.
