Bill Maher Rages at Democrat ‘Edgelords’ Taking Over Party: ‘Maybe the Problem Isn’t Just the Old Farts’

Bill Maher argued it may not be the “old farts” people need to worry about in Washington, D.C., but rather the “new little sh*ts” taking over both major parties.

During the “New Rule” segment on Friday’s Real Time, Maher dove headfirst into debates about age limits for politicians by pointing out that the real problem may be that the kids aren’t all right.

“We’re missing something important. The people who actually run the country aren’t old. They’re probably too young. Yes, the public face of the government may be an 82-year-old, almost dead person,” Maher said, pulling out images of politicians like Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), 92, and Reps. Jim Clyburn (D-SC), 86, and Maxine Waters (D-CA), 88.

“But the person who’s really puppeteering this lunatocracy of ours, that’s this guy, a 26-year-old congressional staffer with the Twitter handle Tactical Amphibian…or something like that. Congressional staffers, that’s who writes the material, the politicians just perform it.”

The comedian raged against young congressional staffers, arguing the majority of them are “ideologically extreme weirdos who live online and spend their days either accusing people of settler colonialism or posting AI memes of Trump riding a lion.”

He blasted these staffers as “edgelords,” which often refers to people who prioritize being shocking and trolling and live mostly through the internet.

Maher called out young “edgelords” on both sides of the political aisle, but wrapped up his monologue by targeting progressive Democrats, blaming them for former President Joe Biden failing to bring the political temperature back to “normal.”

“Why didn’t Joe Biden actually give us the return to normal he promised? Biden ran in 2020 as a single-issue candidate, eliminating malarkey. He wasn’t obsessing about intersectional queer theory. When Joe heard the word trans, he thought Pontiac. But his administration, that is the kids he was too feeble to fight with, they made gender identity the federal government’s day one top concern,” he said.

Maher backed up this point by pointing out Biden’s day one executive order in office on LGBTQ discrimination in schools, workplaces, and elsewhere.

He also went after these liberal “edgelords” over the 2024 presidential election and former Vice President Kamala Harris’sloss.

“They’re the ones who told Kamala Harris that the answer to do you support tax-funded sex changes for people in prison was f*ck yeah instead of you’re f*cking kidding. Those are the Democrats’ edgelords,” Maher said.

“And like the ones on the right, they’re low-key running the country now. So, yes, by all means, let’s elect some younger politicians, but maybe the problem isn’t just the old farts, maybe it’s also the new little sh*ts.”
