Beyoncé Knowles-Carter gave fans a glimpse into her husband Jay-Z's hair transformation while sharing behind-the-scenes family moments in a new video.
The Grammy-winning singer offered a closer look at Jay-Z's hair journey as he, with the help of family members and Beyoncé's Cécred hair care brand, combed out his signature dreadlocks in a video posted June 21 by the hair brand.
Narrated by Beyoncé, the 7-minute video titled "The Blueprint," in a nod to Jay-Z's 2001 album, gives fans insight into why the rapper grew out his hair eight years ago and why he recently decided to take down his wicks, or large locs.
"Everyone wants to know the details of Jay's hair transformation. Jay told me a few months ago he was planning on combing out his locs for the Philly show with The Roots. He wanted to do this in honor of his father," Beyoncé said in the beginning of the video.

Beyoncé said that initially she wasn't convinced he would be able to comb out his locs since they had been over eight years in the making. However, she explained, the entire family helped him over several days as a labor of love, while honoring his locs in the process.
Beyoncé said Jay-Z began growing his locs to show their now 14-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter that they shared a similar hair texture. According to Beyoncé, Blue Ivy struggled with confidence about her hair when she was around 5 years old, inspiring Jay-Z to embrace his natural texture and encourage her to do the same.
"Hair grows. People grow. So the transformation can be emotional," Beyoncé said.

The video shows that Blue grew to embrace her hair as Jay-Z grew out his. Then she, Beyoncé and others joined in on Jay's takedown. The video ends with footage of the rap giant's performance at The Roots festival May 30 in Philadelphia as he debuted his afro that had fans talking.
"I think the key ingredients are patience and love," Beyoncé said during the video. "It wasn't just one person who removed his locs. It was a family affair."
While Jay-Z plans to take the stage in celebration of the 30th anniversary of his debut album "Reasonable Doubt" and the 25th anniversary of "The Blueprint," Beyoncé has maintained a relatively low public profile recently.
