‘Avengers Endgame: Encore’ Has the Biggest Re-Release Trailer Ever

Marvel gave the public a first trailer for the Avengers Endgame: Encore re-release, and it’s understandably broken some records.

Per Deadline, the trailer amassed over 77 million collective views in its first 24 hours. That’s said to be over four times what any previous re-release trailer’s opened to—for comparison, Top Gun had 19 million views, followed by the first Avatar (14 million) and Titanic (13 million). Those three movies all had different things going for them, and Endgame’s got quite a few things. It wasn’t just the last Avengers movie for longer than expected; it was also the last pre-covid blockbuster. That gives it an edge, ditto its big community moments like the Portals scene that was recorded and widely shared online for the sheer “this is happening”-ness of it all.

With Avengers Endgame: Encore, Marvel and the Russo brothers hope audiences want to relive that feeling again enough to watch it and get a tiny little peek at Avengers: Doomsday before it lands later in the year. Those desires might run up against the alleged four minutes’ worth of new material (that’s preceded by a three-hour movie, mind), not to mention the emphasis of Encore being required homework to fully understand whatever’s meant to happen in Doomsday.

That’s most likely not true, but just the idea of it understandably sounds exhausting to those already burnt out on the Multiverse Saga. How that reflects on the box office of either Encore or Doomsday, we’ll have to wait and see. At the very least, this milestone makes clear that people still have the Avengers in their hearts and that for all its faults, Marvel’s still pretty good at cutting trailers.
