Anthony Guidera, an actor who appeared in movies like The Godfather Part III, Armageddon and Species during a career that ran from the 1990s through 2005, has died. He was 65.

TMZ reported news of Guidera's death on Tuesday, June 9, after his wife Valarie told the outlet that her husband collapsed in their home in Southern California on May 11. She shared that he lived the last three weeks of his life on life support in a hospital. According to Valarie, Anthony was taken off life support per a prior directive and died on Saturday, June 6. Valarie told TMZ that doctors were not able to determine what caused his heart to stop.

Anthony and Valarie volunteered at a "spiritual foundation" in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. called Astara. The actor is listed under the organization's volunteers on its website; Astara referred to him as "Reverend Anthony" when it announced his death on June 6. "It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Astara's Reverend Anthony," the organization wrote in an Instagram post. "We are devastated and trying to breathe through the impossible taking each moment as it comes. Please hold his eternal light in your hearts and his family in your prayers."

Guidera is credited with performances in roughly 30 movies or television series between 1990 and 2005. He made his onscreen debut as a bodyguard in Francis Ford Coppola's 1990 movie The Godfather Part III and also appeared in movies like Undercover Heat, Species, The Rock, The Postman, Armageddon and The Annihilation of Fish. He also made guest appearances in television series like Baywatch, The Good News and ER, among others. The 2005 movie L.A. Dicks marked Guidera's final onscreen acting appearance.

The actor also won an MTV Movie Award in 1996 alongside his costar Natasha Henstridge for Best Kiss for the movie Species.

Valarie commented on a friend's Monday, June 8 Instagram post mourning his death. "Tina and Brad-the passing of the man that holds my heart and shares my soul is devastating," she wrote. "Thank you for walking through life's happier times with us, for the unforgettable celebrations, endless smiles and for being a meaningful part of our too short story."
