Anne Hathaway Demands Major Shakeup for Films With Dogs

Anne Hathaway’sThe End of Oak Street is set to hit theaters soon, but before the film’s release, the American actress made a major demand for films with dogs.
Anne Hathaway says movies featuring a dog’s death should automatically receive an R rating
Recently, media and pop culture news Instagram page ComplexPop shared a reel featuring the 43-year-old actress, in which Anne Hathaway said that any movie showing the death of a dog should automatically receive an R rating.
Anne said, “I feel like movies that kill dogs should automatically be rated R. It doesn’t matter if anybody curses. It doesn’t matter if there’s violence. If a dog dies, R rated.”
Actress also reassured fans about her upcoming movie, The End of The Oak Street, saying they do not need to worry because nothing like that happens in the film. She also explained how painful it can be for audiences to watch a dog die on screen.
“Everybody’s so scared that we’re casually doing it in movies now,” Hathway added.
For those who may not know, Anne Hathaway has two dogs: a chocolate Labrador named Esmeralda and a Spaniel-Terrier mix named Kenobi. Hathaway and her husband, Adam Shulman, adopted Kenobi.

In addition, Warner Bros. has also used an AI-generated dog podcast called Dogpack to promote the movie.
The End of The Oak Street is set to arrive in theaters on August 14, 2026. Alongside Anne Hathaway, the film stars Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, and Christian Convery. The movie has received a PG-13 rating.
David Robert Mitchell has written and directed the film, while J.J. Abrams, Hannah Minghella, Jon Cohen, David Robert Mitchell, Matt Jackson, and Tommy Harper serve as producers.
Bad Robot and Jackson Pictures are the production companies behind the movie, while Warner Bros. Pictures is handling its distribution.
