Is Adam Levine the new go-to for country artists on The Voice?
During the Monday, March 2 episode of the singing competition show, the Maroon 5 frontman landed his first country artist of the season — and he relished in the victory.
When 22-year-old Hunter Jordan took the stage for his blind audition, he went in hoping for Kelly Clarkson as a coach — but Levine managed to change his mind.
For his audition, Jordan sang Billy Currington’s "Let Me Down Easy" and received a three-chair turn. Afterward, Levine, 46, was the first to speak up.
“I know greatness when I hear it. I’m not 'Captain Country.' I’m not Blake,” Levine said, referencing his friend and longtime Voice coach Blake Shelton.

He added, “What’s going to happen today is I’m going to finally make a country singer realize that sometimes the best thing to do — and no one’s done it, so you’d be blazing a trail, my friend. We all want to blaze trails don’t we?"
Then, the "Sunday Morning" singer asked the contestant to "resist the urge to go with the status quo" — and argued he should do "what no country singer has done before."
"You’re going to shake things up,” he said. “It’s going to be television gold. But most importantly, it’s going to be Hunter gold, because you’re going to have a bigger career.”

He later added, "Today’s the day I will get a country singer on my team."
Coaches Clarkson, 43, and John Legend delivered hopeful pleas — but in the end, Jordan went with Levine.
"I think I’m going to blaze a path with Adam," he said, causing Levine to fall to the floor.
In a confessional, Levine said he went "fully insane" over the country singer because he deserved to be fought over — and because "I always lose country artists.”

He later added, "I am now 'Captain Country' or at least 'Admiral Country'... I can’t believe this. I’m going to call Blake."
Meanwhile, Jordan opened up about detouring from his original plan to go with Clarkson.
“I thought in my gut I wanted to pick Kelly, but I just had a connection with Adam and I felt like that was the right choice for me," he said.
The Voice airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
