Some landscapes seem to hold more secrets than they reveal. In Sarah Lee’s paintings, familiar elements of the natural world take on an uncanny quality, with glowing moons, luminous skies, and quiet expanses of land and water that feel suspended somewhere between reality and imagination. Born in Seoul, South Korea, and now based in Brooklyn, New York, Lee creates oil paintings that draw viewers into places that feel strangely familiar yet difficult to pin down.Light plays an important role in Lee’s work, often appearing unexpectedly in otherwise still surroundings. A moon might cast an unusually bright glow, a mountain range might open onto a star-filled sky, or a seemingly calm body of water might conceal something beneath its surface. Her landscapes rarely rely on human figures or recognizable landmarks. Instead, subtle shifts in scale, color, and perspective give these places a life of their own, leaving room for curiosity and uncertainty.Look more closely at Sarah Lee’s paintings, where familiar landscapes become intriguing glimpses into a world that seems to follow its own rules.More info: sulhwalee.com | Instagram
